You may have a great idea for an event, but you need to make sure it is financially viable.

It is likely that your festival or event will not generate enough income to cover all your costs, so finding funding from other sources will be essential. You may be able to access funding from:

• Statutory bodies such as Arts Council England, North East or Sport England
• Lottery funders
• Trusts and Foundations
• Local authorities
• Individuals
• Businesses (sponsorship).

Each group will have their preferred application process, but some things are common to all of them. Writing a good application is all about following basic ground rules.

Sponsorship means that your business partner will need to receive a commercial return for their investment in you, and they will expect value for money.
